Real Estate Wealth Expo Success Tips

Foolproof tips that will help you get the most out of RE exposure – or any exposure for that matter!

OK, you’re finally at Expo and you’re ready to kick ass and take names – no pun intended. Here’s what you need to know and do to make your exhibition a success.

be ready

The classic Boy Scout motto is still relevant today. Often, you’ll find that a little pre-preparation can mean a huge difference in desired long-term results.

Take a moment to think about the things you will need to be successful. It shouldn’t be complex. Start by simply asking yourself what you can do to better help your customer. By focusing on your customer, you will be better able to find simple solutions to your needs.

Also consider the number of people you will need to accomplish your mission. You can never have too much help.

Other things to consider will be what type of information to take for your leads and how much. As with help, you can never have too much. Oh, and don’t forget to bring lots of pens!

One last thing – also come mentally prepared. Be sure to bring a good positive attitude with you. The results you get at Expo can be greatly influenced by your attitude. Remember, just as Napoleon Hill said, “thoughts are things”. Think success and you will be successful.

Define aims

It sounds simple enough, but you’ll be surprised how many people don’t do it. Having goals in mind will greatly increase your chances of success.

The RE Expo is a place where you can apply your craft just like you do in your normal professional environment. If you have goals or quotas to meet in your business, it should be no different at Expo.

Break down your goals into event duration target goals (2 days for RE Expo), daily target goals, and hourly target goals. For example, your event duration target goal might be to get 300 leads. Take that 300 and divide it by the number of days of the event. In this example, we’ll use 2, which is the number of days Real Estate Wealth Expo runs. You now have 150 leads every day. Now break down the 150 by the number of hours the event takes place in a day (usually 8-10 hours).

Your final count is approximately 15-19 leads per hour. So, in order to hit your target event goal of 300 leads, you need to sign up about 15-19 leads per hour. That’s pretty conservative when you take the number of people who actually go to the Real Estate Expo – 46,000 in 2005 for LA alone. Do this and you will outperform your competitors by leaps and bounds.

To show creativity

Be creative to attract leads. Be creative to keep you in their minds. You don’t have to follow the crowd. Everyone gives away free pens with their company name and logo.

Give away free mouse pads instead – with your company name, logo and contact number of course! Organize a raffle. Suppose the first 100 people to sign up will be entered into a raffle to win a FREE iPod or something. You’ll be amazed at how a little creativity can go a long way.

Bring as many people as you need to help you

You will be much more accomplished if you have the right number of people with you at Expo. The number of people you need depends on the size of your booth and what you’re trying to accomplish at Expo.

Remember that you have to eat and take bathroom breaks. If you’re a smoker, you’ll probably want a stogie break too. In addition to that, you have to prospect, answer questions, make demos, take contact details, etc.

There is no magic number as to how many people you may need to help, but if you take the above into account, you will get a number that will both help you achieve your goals and is also easy to manage. As a general rule, prioritize security. It’s always better to bring one too many than too few.

Dress comfortably

You will probably be standing for most of the day at Expo. Not to mention that you can also travel a lot to set up a store and possibly go back and forth between prospects. As you can imagine, this is going to wreak havoc on your feet and lower back.

That said, wear comfortable, flexible rubber-soled shoes or trainers. Personally, I would go for wearing sneakers. If you have a dress code and can’t wear sneakers, consider black tennis shoes. Yes, they are actually sneakers, but they look like regular black rubber-soled shoes. Black Reeboks would be my choice.

In addition to wearing comfortable shoes, you also want to dress comfortably. You might want to wear casual pants, a skirt, or Dockers and a white shirt. Guys, unless you have to, don’t wear a tie because you’ll probably end up loosening it or taking it off anyway. As a general rule, the way you dress at Expo should match the industry you are in. So if you’re exhibiting at a Tech Expo, dress the way techies dress.

Remember that you will be speaking with many potential clients, so you want to sound professional. You represent your company or business. Dressing comfortably, yet appropriately, will not only make a good first impression on your prospects, but will also help you look your best.

To save money! Forget the padded carpet

Want to save money upfront? So forget the padded carpet that most convention centers offer. If you remember to wear comfortable shoes, you won’t need a mat. However, if you forget to wear comfortable shoes, opt for carpet. Your feet and lower back will thank you. However, since you are smart, I know you will choose to wear comfortable shoes.

Meet and greet people… And don’t forget to smile!

OK, so you’re standing there at your booth and a potential customer (and they’re all potential customers) seems to be walking towards you… what do you do? That’s right, smile and say hello! Ask how YOU can help them, but don’t stop there. Start a conversation.

He or she is there for a specific reason. They are already pre-qualified and are just ripe for the picking. Offer them personalized service. Give them a reason to want to do business with you and no one else. Do that and you’ll reap a bountiful reward when they finally sign on the bottom line and end up referring all their associates and friends to you. And to think that it all started with your smile.

Till the ground – target your market

Now let’s move on to next-level meetings and greetings. Since you were smart enough to bring enough people to help you, you can now divide your team into two groups; one to work your stand and the other to work the ground.

That’s right, you’re not only going to allow your future customers to come to you, but you’re also going to place your team members in strategic areas of the showroom. The mission of your floor team: meet, welcome and interact with potential customers and send them directly to your booth. The end result: more leads to come.

Bring the necessary technical tools to collect contact information

You should have some type of information collection and storage system already in place in order to collect your prospect’s contact information. It can be as simple as filling out ready-made forms for your prospects, using a PDA, or using a database program on your laptop. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.

Using a PDA is convenient for walking around, but will require you to be a quick one-finger typist. Gathering information on your laptop is faster, but not as flexible as a PDA for porting without having to put it down somewhere (it’s a laptop, remember?). Offering prepared forms for your prospects to fill out frees you from that task, but is subject to illegible (and sometimes unintelligible) handwriting.

The advantage of using a PDA or laptop to collect information is that you can automatically export it to MS Outlook, LotusNotes and other contact management software systems. This will save you hours of data entry work.

Ideally, you’ll want to use the most efficient method of collecting information. Whatever you decide to do, keep it simple. If you can’t decide, try all three and choose the one that works best.

Don’t forget to eat

You are at the Expo. You are excited. You are excited. The tracks arrive like a swarm. Your belly is asking for food, but you’re too excited to notice. You look at your watch and it’s now 3 o’clock in the afternoon! No wonder you’ve probably been feeling bad for an hour or two.

Do yourself a favor and eat throughout Expo. Your body needs fuel to stay sharp and focused. Being specific and focused means your leads get better attention from you. Getting a little extra attention from you may be all they need to say YES to YOU.

Have fun

Exhibits can be a fun getaway from your everyday office environment. Laugh often. Meet new people. Network. Enjoy the moment. After the show, enjoy an evening on the town. Doing the above will make any event an enjoyable and memorable experience.
